You can tell y’all are friends when Brian says “this is a completely insane point” lol!!! Very fun read, and I adored the observation about Cuba; incredible to think these hierarchies —which seem so “substantive”— are downstream of more superficial realities (who gets paid what).
Haha I mean he isn’t wrong! I think the Cuba observation is already out of date (that was based on my last trip in 2016) but they’re a really interesting anthropological case study on what happens to a people when you lock them in an island for 3 generations and completely distort their realities with little points of reference.
